Manufacturing sales fell 1.3% to $69.4B in August: StatCan

Statistics Canada says manufacturing sales in August fell to their lowest level since January 2022 as sales in the primary metal and petroleum and coal product subsectors fell.

The agency says manufacturing sales fell 1.3% to $69.4 billion in August, after rising 1.1% in July.

The drop came as sales in the primary metal subsector dropped 6.4% to $5.3 billion in August, on lower prices and lower volumes.

Sales in the petroleum and coal product subsector fell 3.7% to $7.8 billion in August on lower prices.

Meanwhile, sales of aerospace products and parts rose 7.3% to $2.7 billion in August and wood product sales increased 3.8% to $3.1 billion.

Overall manufacturing sales in constant dollars fell 0.8% in August.
