Advisor.ca congratulates assistant editor Katie Keir, who was named Best New Journalist at the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards last night.

The KRWs, the Oscars of Canadian business journalism, added the category for new journalists to its award roster this year.

Keir accepted her award graciously, thanking her editors for their ongoing mentorship and congratulating fellow nominee Regan Reid of sister publication CI Top Broker.

Our French-language publication, Conseiller, also took home some awards. Editor-in-Chief Yves Bonneau received gold for Best Editorial, and writer Sophie Stival took gold for Best Feature Article – Professional.

Keir, a 2008 University of Toronto English and drama graduate, joined Advisor Group in January 2012 and proved her mettle throughout the year as the web team’s editorial ops backbone. Throughout 2012, Keir produced dozens of web articles, along with numerous print features for Advisor’s Edge Report.

Then, she dove into feature writing, producing several shorter features for flagship magazine Advisor’s Edge before writing her full-length nominating story “When Good Partners Go Bad.” Keir also produced the magazine’s first Editor’s Note by a non-manager in the publication’s history.
