Alberta small biz can’t meet salary wishes

Because Alberta workers earn the highest incomes in Canada, the province’s small business owners are struggling to meet employees’ salary expectations, finds ATB Financial.

More than two-thirds of small- and mid-sized businesses have trouble finding quality workers, such as skilled journeymen or equipment operators. And when they do find the right person, they can’t offer a big enough salary.

Employers, such as DIRTT Environmental Solutions, try to compete by offering other job perks like flex hours, breakfast and lunch programs and on-site gyms.
