Carney says British notes will feature Jane Austen

Former BOE Governor Mervyn King provoked a media storm when he announced in June that the last woman featured on British money other than the Queen, Elizabeth Fry, would be replaced with Winston Churchill.

Mark Carney responded he would consider the issue in his first public communication as new governor.

Today, he’s announced author Jane Austen will soon appear on the British ten-pound note, reports the Wall Street Journal.

“Her novels have an enduring and universal appeal and she is recognized as one of the greatest writers in English literature,” said Carney.
