Industry moves this week

Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Joanna Rotenberg is joining Vanguard as a managing director to head up a new advice and wealth management division, starting in January. Rotenberg is moving from Fidelity Investments, where she was president of personal investing and led the company’s retirement, brokerage and wealth management business. She also spent more than a decade at BMO Financial Group, including five years as group head of its wealth management division. She previously served nearly nine years as a partner at McKinsey & Co. in its wealth and asset management division. At the same time, Lauren Valente, previously managing director and chief human resources officer, has been named head of Vanguard’s Institutional Investor Group. Jon Couture will join the company this month to succeed her. John James is now head of Workplace & Advisor Solutions, moving from his previous position as managing director of the Institutional Investor Group.
  • Nawojka Wachowiak is now a senior portfolio manager with Ninepoint Partners LP. Wachowiak, who comes to Ninepoint from Dynamic Funds/Scotia Global Asset Management, where she co-managed the precious metals, resource and energy transition assets totalling more than $900 million, is the lead portfolio manager for Ninepoint’s three precious metals and resource funds. She also has previous experience as a sell-side equity analyst covering North American mining stocks.
  • Kevin Kennedy has joined the board of directors at the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). He brings deep capital markets experience to the role as executive vice-president and head of North American markets at Nasdaq, and previously, head of U.S. derivatives at the exchange. Kennedy is replacing Luc Fortin, who has resigned from the board. Fortin is also president and CEO of The Montreal Exchange and global head of trading at TMX Group Ltd.
  • Caroline Drouin has been appointed head of investor relations with iA Financial Group, effective Jan. 1. Drouin, who joined the firm in 2018, is currently the firm’s vice-president, investor relations, sustainability and public affairs. With Drouin’s appointment, Marie-Annick Bonneau, current head of investor relations, will move into the role of senior vice-president, integrated risk management.
  • Mehran Farmanara and Sina Rezai are merging their professional services firm Farmanara & Rezai with MNP. The two will become partners at MNP effective Feb. 1, bringing their team of five with them.
