Barry Christiansen is the new vice president, retail banking and insurance at Envision Financial. He will be responsible for the financial performance of 20 branches and 16 insurance locations.

With more than 25 years in the industry, Christiansen is known for his commitment to developing newcomers.

His two most important lessons for young leaders are:

1. Make lifelong learning a priority

Stay on top of trends and learn new skills, he says. Also, participate in in-house educational opportunities.

2. Become a coach for your team

Hold a coaching session with each staff member at least once a month and use these questions as a guide: what’s going well; what would you like to improve; and, what action plans can we commit to so you can improve?
