The next leader of SEC will be…

Mary J. Miller, the under secretary for domestic finance at the U.S. Treasury Department, could become the next leader of the Securities and Exchanges Commission.

The New York Times has serious reservations about her ability to enforce much-needed financial reforms, however. It says “she has no time for people who are serious about making the financial system safer, and no willingness to really face down powerful people on Wall Street.”

It also says she faces three major obstacles: Neil Barofsky, another potential candidate; money market funds; and the new momentum for reform.
