The government has updated the disability tax credit (DTC) application form T2201 and will stop accepting forms from before 2023 on Sept. 6, 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) said Tuesday.

And beginning Jul. 14, 2026, tax filers won’t be able to use the “submit documents” section in their CRA account to send DTC applications or related documents unless the CRA has requested more information from them.

If the CRA requires supporting documents, it will reach out to applicants by mail or through their CRA account with instructions and a case reference number to use when submitting documents.

In the government’s April spring economic update, it proposed several measures to make it easier to claim the disability tax credit (DTC).

For example, it said it intended to expand the list of medical practitioners who can certify eligibility and reduce paperwork for medical practitioners by streamlining the application process for certain long-lasting medical conditions.

The CRA recommends submitting online DTC applications rather than using a paper form since it will always be the latest version and medical practitioners can access it online.
