David Wong

David Wong, FRM, CFA

David is responsible for CIBC Asset Management’s investment teams across equity, fixed income, multi-asset and currency, and managed solutions. 

Collectively, the firm manages roughly $350 billion across asset classes in the US and Canada, including the Total Investment Solutions team that to determine the asset allocations and the construction of portfolios, researches, evaluates, and helps select the managers, and monitors the investments of the firm’s roughly $90 billion managed solutions programs.  In addition, David is a member of the CIBC Family Office’s Leadership Team and provides institutional asset allocation advice to ultra-high net worth individuals and families. 

David joined CIBC Asset Management in July 2011, and served as Managing Director, Investment Management Research (IMR) until June 2021. David has more than 27 years of industry experience in New York and Toronto. Before joining CIBC Global Asset Management, David was Senior Research Analyst for Russell Investments, covering a broad spectrum of fixed-income strategies on behalf of institutional and retail clients. 

David holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University. He is a CFA Charterholder and also holds the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation from the Global Association of Risk Professionals. David volunteers his time serving on the Board of Directors of the Oakville Community Foundation where he is Vice-Chair of the Investment Committee, and serving on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Investment Committee of the CIBC Foundation.  He is also on the Executive Committee of the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer Tournament that supports the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
