Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Michelle Alexopoulos has been named an external deputy governor for the Bank of Canada for a two-year term starting March 17. Alexopoulos is a professor of economics at the University of Toronto, where she has taught for more than 19 years. She’s also a former president of the Canadian Economics Association. In a press release, the central bank’s governor, Tiff Macklem, said Alexopoulos is a “top-tier macroeconomist with deep expertise in issues critical to Canada’s economic prospects. I am confident that her knowledge and innovative thinking will contribute importantly to our policy decision making.”
  • Robert Gill has joined Fairbank Investment Management Ltd. as a portfolio manager. Gill was previously senior vice-president and portfolio manager at Goodreid Investment Counsel for nearly three years, and has also held executive and portfolio manager roles at Lincluden Investment Management and Foyston, Gordon & Payne, Inc.
